SHORT CONCEPT

The artwork depicts the many physical and cultural borders that one keeps failing to cross in society, when a person has migrational background or different types of otherness. The painful bureaucratic limbos, the not fitting into specific categories of need and failure to meet the unspoken expectations. It draws a parallel to Marc Augé non-place theory and proposes a feeling where in contemporary societies the person itself can feel often like the non-place itself.

The work was chosen as one of the five winners of the competition “Demokratie Leben”, a collaboration project between Gewista and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
